So I went to see X Men: The Last Stand yesterday. I went to see it at 9:30 in the morning, directly after finishing a 12 hour shift at work, so my level of concentration may not have been the best, but it seemed... well, a bit pants in the story department. The action was great, and over all I thought it was an okay film, but it just seemed a bit short, and a bit sort of messy, not really all that well thought out. And I know that when stories and ideas cross mediums things often change, but I feel that the X-men of the movies are a little too far from what they have been in the past. I always liked the fact that Colossus was russian. Making him into a middle American farmboy knida spoiled the character. But I guess the target audience is broader with film, so they have to play to the public at large in the States, who still seem to see the Ruskies as slightly sinister... And I didn't really like Vinnie Jones as Juggernaut. If I recall correctly, Juggernaut was supposed to Professor X's brother, which was a cool little story element. And he wasn't a mutant as such - his power was magical, which was also cool. But again, I suppose that in adapting things to film, it is necessary to butcher the greater story arc and get down to the bare bones, in order to fit what you can into two hours.
Not much else has been going on recently. I haven't been to church for about a month. I eventually decided that I'd rather sleep or generally relax on Sunday morning than go and listen to loud music and less than helpful sermons. The congregation there all seem like good people, and they clearly believe that what they're doing and how they serve the Lord is the right way to go about things, but it just isn't for me.
Oh, I got a new broadband connection this week - I went with Woosh wireless broadband. It was cool for about two days - I downloaded a whole heap of TV shows that I'd been waiting to see - the last half of SG-1 season 9, the last three eps of SG-Atlantis season 2, about six eps of Futurama that I didn't have, and some Smallville. All of which I have watched since Wednesday. I spend more time sitting at this computer than I do any where else... But anyways, after two days of running at about 50-60K download speed, my broadband has dropped to dial-up speed. Which, basically, is shit. I'm guessing that it's because my plan has a data cap of 10GB a month. If I managed to download 10 gig of stuff in two days, (a) that's pretty fucking astounding, and (b) I need a much bigger cap... Money, money, money... everything costs too much.
