Mr Romero is back with zombies...

I was checking out some gaming sites the other day, when I saw an ad for Land of the Dead. Awesome! I heard about this a while ago, but I wasn't aware that it had actually gone into production, let alone that it is being released in the US in about a week. I checked out the website - www.landofthedeadmovie.net - and it looks very cool indeed. Not a big name cast, but people most folks would recognise (but that was the way with the first three Dead films - and I guess horror films in general.)
But yeah, it's cool to see the master of the zombie genre come back with something new. There have been quite a few zombie flicks in recent years - the Resident Evil adaptations, the remake of Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later, Shaun of the Dead (my personal favourite), but nothing that quite lives up to the Romero classics (although as a tribute to the original Dead trilogy, Shaun of the Dead worked brilliantly). From the style of the Land of the Dead website, the film looks to be kinda Resident Evilly - in fact some of the music that plays on the site is from the Resident Evil soundtrack. Still, I am really looking forward to seeing it (although when I looked for it on the release schedule at work, it's not due here till November - bummer.). I suspect that it will end up going straight to DVD here - it seems to be the way of things. Although I guess Shaun of the Dead and the Resident Evil films did okay in theatres - so who knows? It would be very cool indeed to see a Romero zombie flick on the big screen...
